Providing seamless climate action for customers
Careem customers are accustomed to a seamless experience. The primary challenge was to provide them with an easy and effective way to remove their carbon emissions during rides. This solution had to be fully integrated into the Careem app, ensuring a smooth user experience. Introducing the Eco-Friendly Ride (EFR)
CarbonSifr and Careem launched the Eco-Friendly Ride (EFR) option in Dubai during COP28. This ride type offers the same convenience as Careem’s popular Comfort ride but with the added benefit of carbon removal for an extra AED 1 for every 20 km traveled.

Careem Launched the Eco-Friendly Ride Type

How it works
The solution is completely seamless. The EFR option is fully embedded in the Careem app, allowing customers to order as they would any other ride, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience.

With regular updates and communication to its customers, the EFR initiative emphasizes collective action, highlighting the cumulative impact of all users choosing eco-friendly rides.

Booking an Eco-Friendly Ride is simple

Since its launch, the Eco-Friendly Ride has seen significant adoption:

  • Usage: Over 100,000 rides taken: More than 800 tonnes of CO₂e removed from the atmosphere.
  • Geographical Reach: Initially launched in Dubai, due to its success the service has been expanded to Abu Dhabi shortly after
  • Customer Feedback: Positive feedback from customers, with the majority repeating their EFR bookings
